This years edition of this world famous race was always going to be a tough one. Throughout the week as we all monitored various forecasting websites, it was clear we were in for a slow one. Starting the race in sub 4knts of breeze, we got a little buried in the fleet thanks to a riding turn that required cutting with a knife. It is quite incredible to think that the first time I have had to cut a rope on a yacht was in nearly no wind. Having had a very average beat to the needles, we rounded the needles and made very good gains going inshore putting us right back with the pack. When we eventually reached St. Catherine's Point, the wind shut out again and we parked up with hundreds of other boats. After nearly an hour with the boat speed reading 0.00knts, my clients onboard decided to pull the plug and crack open the beers. Fair play, but a shame somebody had to drive! First mate Bethany and I got to join the celebrations once ashore with our team and celebrate not a victory, but instead a glorious day on the water with great people.
