The start of the season had us all a little worried. Fortunately we had a great snowfall in mid Novemeber, because what followed was an almost unbroken 6 week period of glorious sunshine and high temperatures. Whilst many resorts remained closed, Verbier managed to open a remarkable percentage of its pistes, in part due to its altitude, but also the incredible efforts of Téléverbier, the local lift company. Despite widespread cancellations across the snowsports industry, it has been my busiest start of season to date with clients coming from Singapore, Holland, the UK, Switzerland, Jordon, Egypt, France, Italy, and the US. As the busy Christmas week approached, the weather situation had not changed, and on Boxing Day I found myself teaching a ski lesson in the morning, before climbing in the valley above Sembrancher in the afternoon in just a t-shirt. However as the New Year approached, the snow began to fall, and several weeks later it is still dumping, so much so that we are starting to miss the sunshine! It's safe to say that 2016 is now shaping up to be an epic season. With the busy holiday period over it's time to look forward to some slightly different projects...
I have a number of corporate ski trips booked in through Kando Events (www.kandoverbierevents.com), which always promise to be great fun, skiing with large groups of interesting and diverse individuals. This year I have been invited to ski with the École Suisse de Ski Demo Team, a group of 8 instructors of the highest technical ability in the school of 250+ instructors. Training has already started as we aim for success competing against other schools from all over Switzerland this season in a number of regional and national competitions. I have also been appointed the manager of the Challenge Philippe Roux, a local competition running every Saturday open to professionals and amateurs alike, which is bound to keep me rather busy. Aside from these great projects, I will continue to work with my loyal and valuable private client base, pushing their skiing on to new heights each time. It's great to see more and more clients returning each year, and watching their progress is an immensely satisfying aspect of my job. I hope to see as many of you as possible in 2016, whether it's skiing or sailing. You decide!
